A beautiful pair of side lock Cannon Barrel pistols by Griffin and Tow with full silver mounts, turn off barrels, trigger guard safeties, still retaining their original blue to the breeches and lock plates. The butt caps decorated with angels in bas-relief, the ornate side plates showing trophies of arms and crested ornate silver escutcheon plate.
Condition: These pistols are in the finest condition we have seen and although the barrels have some patination there is no wear to the balusters or the frisms. The lockplates, cocks and breeches all retain their original blue finish. Unusually for pistols of this type, the frism springs are fitted with friction rollers. These pistols are late for their type, being Circa 1775 – an illustration of a similar pistol with the same butt cap is shown in the book of Pistols of the American Revolution as being of a type carried by English Officers during the American war of independence
