A fine and rare pair of flintlock duelling pistols by William Smith of Lisle Street, London. They are half stocked with 9” octagonal barrels with maker’s name and address. Double gold lines at the breeches, engraved tang and trigger guard, steel mounts throughout, but with silver side nail plates and silver fore end caps. They have fine chequered butts. These pistols are fitted with William Smith’s patent locks, which were reputed to be the fastest flintlocks ever made. The approximately 38 bore barrels are smooth bored but the pistols are fitted with set triggers and side safeties to the locks. The locks are also distinguished by a total lack of straight edges all surfaces are curved including the pans and their covers. The barrels have been well rebrowned at some time in the past.
