An approximately 16 bore double barrelled percussion rifle by John Blissett of 322 High Holborn London, in its maker’s oak case with its accessories; there are minor repairs and small stains to the green baize lining. The browned twist barrels still retain a considerable amount of their original finish, and there are high percentages of case hardening colour to the locks. The trigger guard, patch box and buttplate also retain some original finish but are very crisp and the overall is engraved with game scenes. The leather outer has the name McNaghten inscribed on it; the rifle has connections with Colonel McNaghten of the 8th Hussars, who was certainly present in the Crimea at the Charge of the Light Brigade and thereafter saw service in command of the regiment in India in 1865, prior to returning home.
Condition: The bores are both excellent.
