An exceedingly rare .300 calibre hexagonal bore Whitworth percussion sporting/match rifle in its original tarred canvas and baize lined carrying case, with Whitworth trade label. The gun number is F6**. The lock is marked to Whitworth Manchester and the rifle has the Whitworth Rifle Company marking on top of the barrel. Unusually, this rifle is fitted with a windage aperture foresight and an elevating tang sight, albeit ungraduated. It has its original leaf sight to the barrel and in the case is a bead foresight which fits in place of the windage foresight. The lock retains most of its case hardening colour as does the iron furniture, the barrel has a high percentage of blue with some places faded. The bore is excellent. The stock is extremely good quality and appears to be from a batch of very fine walnut that Whitworth used on a number of weapons of this period. The rifle is contained within its case with a number of small accessories and an original pack of 119 grain paper patched original bullets.
