An extremely rare and unusual Gibbs Farquharson Metford Falling Block Rifle by George Gibbs, Corn Street, Bristol.  Calibre .360 no 4 Gibbs.  With fine quality engraved action, blued octagonal barrel with small pattern Gibbs target foresight with windage adjustment.  Small two leafed back sight to the barrel, and long range tang sight to wrist with cocking lever to the left handside of the action, which is engraved with ‘George Gibbs, Bristol’ in Cartouche.  Farquharson patent use number 357 to the righthandside of the action.  Good walnut stock, with cheek piece to the right of the butt.  The barrel has the base for a Davidson type telescopic sight (not present).

Condition:  Firing crisps are out with subtle case hardening  colours to the action and trigger guard group.  The original blue to the barrel is some 95% with small areas of fade.  The stock work and chequering are clean and crisp with very few marks or dings.  The Metford bore is excellent.  The whole is retained in its original green velvet lined oak and leather case, with cleaning rod.
